Laszlo Hanyecz, the man behind the world’s most famous pizza purchase, has adopted a new furry friend—and given it a pizza-inspired name. Hanyecz, who famously spent 10,000 Bitcoin on two pizzas in 2010, has named his rescue dog “Slice,” a nod to the transaction that made him a crypto legend.

“Pizza has been a big part of my story, so it felt right to honor that in some way,” Hanyecz shared. “Slice is a great dog—she’s loyal, energetic, and, just like Bitcoin back in 2010, a little unpredictable at times!”

The adoption has delighted the crypto community, who still celebrate Bitcoin Pizza Day every May 22nd. Some joked that Slice’s name might remind Hanyecz of the fortune he unwittingly spent on those two pizzas, now valued at over $250 million

Hanyecz, however, is unfazed by the astronomical value of those early Bitcoins. “The Bitcoin pizza transaction wasn’t just about two pizzas—it was about proving that Bitcoin could be used in the real world. If anything, Slice just reminds me how far we’ve come.”

Slice has reportedly settled into her new home and enjoys accompanying Hanyecz on walks—and sniffing out leftover pizza crumbs when she gets the chance.
